Stowe House Gardens

The Harriet Beecher Stowe Center is a participating site in Hartford Blooms, an opportunity to enjoy Hartford's spectacular gardens at the peak of their beauty. The event includes public and private gardens in Hartford's diverse neighborhoods.

Stroll the Stowe Center gardens at no charge using our self-guided map.

Inspired by Stowe’s love of plants and colors, the Stowe Center gardens range from shade-loving perennials to colorful annuals, from single-color beds to a riot of shrubs and meadow flowers, from exotic elephant ears and castor bean plants to stately roses, and provide ever-blooming arrays from late May through September.

The gardens include Connecticut’s largest Merrill magnolia, the Stowe Dogwood™ cornus florida rubra, a pink dogwood believed to be from Stowe’s time and a National Champion tree, the Common Pawpaw.

While you're here, buy tickets in the Visitor Center for a Stowe House tour and shop the Museum Store for distinctive gifts.
